Jessica had suffered several more scratches and bruises from the random objects being tossed on the wind and Thomas had not managed much better. It was then Jessica heard something in the storm a roaring the she first mistook has thunder, but has the noise grew Jessica knew better. "C'Nell signal fire, I think I hear a shuttle." I'll need your help with flight controls" Tom urged. Matrix grabbed the secondary controls and engaged the descend program. "You got it Tom. The flight computer will display the best route on the heads up display. I'll help guide as necessary." replied Matrix. "Doctor this is likely going to be a rough ride so hang on. We should be at their location in about 90 seconds." continued Matrix. As the Rubicon descended it was met with extreme turbulence. The high winds aloft kissed the Rubicon port side, then starboard side. "We're off course by 18 degrees port...I'm adjusting thrusters to compensate. 45 kilometers...35 kilometers...25 kilometers...10...9...8..." said Matrix. A bright flash and a loud noise filled the cabin of the Rubicon. Warning lights lit up the flight console. "We were just hit by an electromagnetic discharge. It damaged the port nacelle, but its still functional. Power loss is 15 percent." said Matrix. "We're getting close Tom...navigation says we're now within a 300 meters downrange, altitude 900 meters....200 meters down range....altitude 700 meters. I'm switching on the landing lights." continued Matrix. "C'Nell signal fire, I hear a shuttle" Jessica said to Thomas it was like someone had delivered him Sha Ka Ree. He angled the weapon upwards and fired just as Jessica had earlier directed, "come on, come on" Thomas said ~What if it isn't even a Federation shuttle?~ it occurred to him he had to hope it wasn't a hostile one at any rate. "There Jessica I have done what I can" he looked down and fiddled in his pocket, he had a few small samples-not entirely wasted expedition. He looked at Jessica who was on the floor, carrying her leg apparently too much for her. He kissed her forehead Not wasted at all. He just hoped the shuttle had seen him. He tapped his combadge. "Attention anyone this is Starfleet Officer Thomas C'Nell I have an injured fellow officer please anyone respond our supplies are ruined by the storm and we will not survive without immediate rescue" C'Nell had no idea how much would get through over the storm or if there was interference. The storm was formidable to say the least. They had already sustained damage to one of the nacelles and Matrix attempted to ascertain its significance when they would depart this planet. Steve had noticed an energy flash off the port bow, but didn't think much of it in the mix of lightening they had already witnessed. The comm channel alerted to a signal and Matrix turned his attention to the transmission. =^=Attention anyone this is Starfleet Officer Thomas C'Nell I have an injured fellow officer please anyone respond our supplies are ruined by the storm and we will not survive without immediate rescue.=^= Steve smiled, "They're here. "Oh...Tom leave the landing beacon on so we can track back here if the visibility gets worse." continued Matrix. “Roger that Steve” he replied and watched as Dr. Scudder and Steve went to retrieve their shipmates. Tom added as an afterthought “Should we destroy the remains of the shuttle so as to not violate the Prime Directive? Also what about retrieving the flight data recorder?” he wondered out loud. Finally they reached the runabout and C'Nell fell upon the floor breathing deep he was very tired, his muscles ached from the trees and he had had little sleep on the island he had felt a strange and illogical duty to protect Jessica in her sleep; he would have to reflect upon it. Undoubtedly his father would appear to scold him in his dreams, he had deprived himself of sleep (Vulcans could last much longer than most species for example humans that was the logic behind his night watch) for purposes which were inadequate in his fathers eyes. C'Nell was only marginally aware of the events surrounding him, he was lifted by unknown arms into a rest area. "It appears malnutrition may be the worst of it," Paul replied, administering the hypospray to C'nell's neck. "Ensign C'nell and Ensign Signos," Paul smiled, turning again to perform a different scan on Jessica. "I'm Doctor Scudder. Any complaints I should know of?" (reply C'nell/Signos iyw) Paul's manner was light and open, while his hands stayed very busy. He'd been concerned about Jessica's genetic condition, and he'd anticipated the need for modified antigens should he need to replenish her blood or nutrients quickly. For the first time, Ailyn could see where the base is situation. And finally, she thought, she understood why it looks so old as it does. As soon as they got in they proceeded to the General. "Sir, we found nothing at the coordinates." Taylor spoke first. "Are you sure, Taylor?" "Absolutely, sir. We scanned the area several times. We scanned the twin stars and there doesn't seem to be any kind of proof there ever was any kind of planet orbiting around them. I'm sure a civilization could not live with stars with such high radiation anyway." "That is very unfortunate. I think I will have to deal with the bad sources later. For now, I have new orders for both of you." he said, it was obvious he wasn't all too happy with the sources of information talking and making first contact with an imaginary race. He didn't seem awfully surprised, probably meaning this wasn't the first time his sources lied to him. "Ready, sir." Taylor said. "But first, I will regrettably have to inform both of you that Ramirez left us recently. We hope for his best." "Why?" Ailyn asked. General was still looking at Taylor, ignoring Ailyn completely. "We do not know. Regardless, do not let that carry you away from your orders." he said, continuing "Taylor, you are transmitted for duties on base mars. We found some artifacts deep in the caverns, and I want you to lead the expedition down there." "Ailyn, I want you to return to Starbase Geneva, and continue to monitor Subject 13, get to know the subject, put on the appearance of friendship if possible and specially monitor any kinds of injuries. Secondary, I want you to keep me informed of your current mission every several days, I want you to be my ears and eyes out there. You are dismissed." And again Andersen tried speaking their mind but was dismissed. Taylor looked at her sadly, it meant they're not going to be seeing each other for a while. In truth, Ailyn had no knowledge what exactly happened. She never found women appealing to herself, and she couldn't understand what was happening between her and Taylor - in a sense, that it was happening way too fast, and that she felt neither against not for it. Perhaps the best thing to do would be to just continue as she were and let it go, for now. "Taylor, not you, you stay behind for a second." General said. She walked out of General's room before Taylor could even notice, gulping, she could only wonder why did the General keep her there. Interestingly, she found one from her mother. Obviously, she was released from the mental institution a few days ago. "Computer, can you find the current location for..." "That won't be necessary my dear" an known voice came from behind, Ailyn wasn't even aware the doors opened. "Mother!" she said quickly standing up. "Don't you want to hug your mother, Ailyn?" Dorothy said. "Mother, but we never..." "Yes, ever since your father passed away, Ailyn. I am much better now. I am blessed I have a smart daughter that I do to get the recommendation for a tryout of the new experimental therapy. I feel much better, Ailyn, and I'm.. I'm starting to remember things." "Mom, it's so great to see you back!" she yelled, running in for a hug. "I am sorry, my dear, if I hurt you. I never meant to do it. Did you know I always loved you?" "Yes, mom. It's so great to have you back... I mean the real you. How long are you staying?" she said, finishing her hug, ignoring her mother sorries. "Actually, I... I do not even understand how it happened. There was a man, that was my doctor, for the therapy and he also said he had a friend needing a botanist on the Starbase. Knowing I'd be around my only daughter, I just couldn't say no. I cannot remember the last time I've been happier." "So you'll be a botanist now, and I'll be able to see you everytime we stop?" "That would be assistant of the botanist, but yes, I'll be around. Tell me Ailyn what is new in your life? I have a vague memory of two past decades... it was as if the last time I really saw you was when you were our beloved young Ailyn." "Mother, I have so much things to talk to you..." "Well then, you wouldn't mind telling me all that through the walk to my quarters... and telling me where that would be, Ailyn?" "Really, Kenjuro, are you going to preach me about food? You of all know that food should be taken little by little." she explained, sipping some wine from the glass. "There is a difference between eating small portions and not eating at all. But enough of the darn food. How's your time on the Rosenante?" "It's been going great my friend. I was surprised how smooth it went." "Yeah, and you even got a little rank of your own." he said smiling. "Yeah, the crew is really great and the ship is dream come true." "That I can bet, I'm stuck with Brooklyn, the CO doesn't seem to like me much, and our missions are far less entertaining that yours, I'm sure." "There is a reason for it, you know, the Starfleet won't send it's older vessels into untested waters, so to speak. The newer ships stand much better chance in a fight." "Heck, I'd take my chances if we could only see some kind of a fight... that doesn't involve asteroids, that is." The duo laughed, remembering some of the not-so-great old school days in the simulators. "Talking about those times... do you remember your final test, Aly?" "Only vaguely, I do remember I barely passed though, haha." "I was accused of cheating, almost was asked to re-do, or maybe even get expelled or something, I mean, hell if I ever knew the laws, but at the last moment they decided to accept it." "What scenario did you have?" "USS Potempkin." "That's a hard one..." she said shrugging. "That it is. I might have acquired a whole script for the program and thoroughly examined all possible outcomes and combinations and chose the best ones. Eventually, they allowed me to pass, but my final went out without recommendations, something I missed when trying to get on a better ship." "I'm sorry, although it is kinda your own fault. You cheated so the only thing you could get is some kind of a punishment as a result." "I see you're as pragmatic as always, Aly." Kenjuro said widening a big smile, he didn't seem too offended at all. "And you're always such a tease." "You know, next time when we get back together on a dinner or somewhere, we should really plan some vacation spot. Something really cool, Aly. I'd love to take you away for a while so we can have an adventure somewhere in the wild." "And now you're adventurer as well?" she said teasing him with her reaction. "Two friends, raiding the ancient graveyards of the ill-forgotten race." "You're doing too much holographic science fiction novels, I see." "Pffft, and I thought we were friends." "I never liked you anyway." "Hahahahahaha" they both burst into laughs, this is really the way they were always towards each other. Kenjuro was a good friend, but something was burdening his heart, it was so obvious even Ailyn could see. "So really honestly tell me why did you wake me in the middle of the beautiful raining morning to tell me to meet for a dinner out of the blue?" she asked. "I missed you?" "We didn't need to meet up for a dinner, we could have just hanged out together in our usual places." "Well, I did miss you. But I also wanted to ask you for a favor." "What kind of favor Kenjuro?" "I have a problem. It's a big missunderstanding, but I'm being tailed by some people looking for something they think I have." "Do I... even want to ask for more information?" "Aly, do you trust me?" "Not enough to help without asking enough questions." "Always the smart girl, huh? Nevermind, they're tailing me because, basically, they believe I'm a... changeling." "WHAT?" "Yeah, I mean, I might have told one girl that I'm a changeling because she seemed to be into them, you know... and somehow her boyfriend found out. And now I'm in trouble... I'm obviously not a changeling." "So what do you exactly need?" "A place to stay for a few days? Just like your ship, ours is on refit as well. Second time this year too, the damn thing brakes up more often then Bolian energy grid, if that's even possible." "Sure sure, you know where the card for the entrance is?" "Inside the flower pot, yes, sure I still remember." "And do you remember the password as well?" "Yeah, it's kinda hard to forget since you've been abusing it since you were a kid." "Yeah, there's something magical in unlocking the doors to your place in the middle of the night, punching in 'peekabo' as a password." "That's not even funny, Aly. There's all kinds of nutcases out there." "Yeah, like those lying around they're changelings." "Oh my... you know what, I'm just going to get into your place and demolish it, just as a payback for this!" "Good luck trying to ruin it more then it already is." "Haha, you should really see the last place I slept in. Or maybe, actually, I'm sure you being a neat-picky doctor and all that, you probably wouldn't." The duo continued laughed for a while, then Kenjuro escorted Ailyn to her room where she was staying for the time being. Kenjuro was to board the next shuttle and check her house back on Earth, whereas Ailyn was supposed to meet a possible addition to the merc crew - sadly she didn't even had the pleasure of meeting him, but she had few more days to do it, and helping Kenjuro in the same time made sense and at least helped not thinking about problems and her duties, which to here were the same thing. (Reply: None) (Posted by: Lani) ----- (Rosenante, Main Engineering, ACEO Lieutenant Gan Nolar, Day 27, 1746) It had been almost a month now since he had been officially transferred to the USS Rosenante, but the ship was still at dock. For the first week or two, unable to work on the ship, the task being reserved to starbase Geneva engineers, he had find the time quite long. Luckily, after two weeks, he was finally allowed to take regular duty on the USS Rosenante. That gave him the time to bring some modifications to the classification methods. All the cargo bay storage had been completely reorganized, with the approval of his superiors, to considerably ease up classification. Now, you could find any equipment or item you wanted with the eyes closed. It was quite a change from the chaos that was prior to his arrival. He still couldn`t figure out how the crew of the Rosenante did to find the stuff they needed. Apparently, Federation officers liked to move stuff aside for thirty minutes to find something. Gan had also worked to get familiar with the new ship. The amount of simulation he had done to grasp the way the system works was tremendous. He even checked the holodeck projector to make sure he wasn`t overusing it. If he had still a lot to learn, he had now a way better grasp of the ship capability and the way it worked. It was remarkable to see what the engineers of starfleet had been able to do. It was sometimes even hard to admit they were smarter than those on Cardassia. In fact, he never really admitted it to himself. Gan was also starting to get familiar with the names of the officers under his authority. As most were on short leave, he hadn't actually met them in person, but with starfleet records and pictures, he would recognize any engineer he would cross. Yet, Gan was getting impatient to leave spacedock and finally have his first taste of adventure on his new assignment. (Reply no one) (Posted by Nick) ----- (Rosenante, Captain's Ready Room, Captain Sanok, Day 37, 1115) The repairs on the Rosenante were completed and the ship was run through a test cruise. Members of the crew were back from shore leave, while there were some crew transfers. The Rose had left space dock and was now beginning a new patrol route. A lot was the same, but so much had changed. The Rose had a new captain, the third since Sanok served on her, though this time, it was he. Sanok respected his predecessors, Salid and Soma, and a part of him missed them both, especially Ben. He had heard from Ben just before they left SB Geneva. He and Marah were doing well, and at least for now, Ben wasn't coming back to Starfleet. When the Rose had been taken out of space dock, he had not sat in the captain's chair, choosing to stand behind the helm position. He had sat in the chair in the past, but it had always been someone else's. Now it was his, and it did not feel right just yet. He would need to adjust, or spend the rest of his time as CO, standing on the bridge. With Sanok as CO, there was a new command team. Matrix was FO and still CEO, though over the next several months, Lt. Nolar would be transitioned into that role. Jackson as 2O had taken Sanok's old position as chief of security. With Charlie Raschen taking a leave from Starfleet, Sanok had named Signos as chief of tactical. He still did not trust her, but he knew she was the most qualified for the position. He had visited her in the base sickbay after she and C'nell were rescued, but the visit was short. Sanok had told her he was the new CO, and that he wanted her to command tactical, but nothing was said about Lilly or Sanok's thoughts on her future on the Rose. He would need to see how things progressed. There was one more thing to do. "Matrix and Jackson, please come to the ready room," said Sanok after tapping his comm badge. They were both on the bridge, so it would be only a moment for them to arrive. He also realized he had said 'the' ready room and not 'my'. When the chime rang, he opened a small panel he had the Geneva engineers install on the desk. He pressed a button and the door opened. After Matrix and Jackson stepped inside, he tapped the button again and the door closed. Another button tap and the door locked with an audible 'click'. "Computer, implement priority one security protocols over this ready room," said Sanok. "Security protocols implemented," said the computer. Sanok opened a drawer and pulled out two PADDs, placing them on the desk. He looked up at Matrix and Jackson. "These PADDs contain information both of you need to know if you are to fulfill your duties on board this ship. However, once you have this information, you will be placing yourselves, and possibly your families, in peril to some very dangerous and unscrupulous people." Sanok paused to let this sink in. "I leave it to each of you to decide if you read the PADDs or not." (reply Matrix, Jackson) (posted by Bob B.) ----- (Rosenante, Captain's Ready Room, Lieutenant Commander Steven Matrix, Day 37, 1118) Matrix stepped off the bridge and into the Captain's Ready Room within a few moments. He kept silent awaiting Sanok to speak. "Computer, implement priority one security protocols over this ready room," said Sanok. "Security protocols implemented," replied the computer. The Captain placed two PADDs on his desk and continued. "These PADDs contain information both of you need to know if you are to fulfill your duties on board this ship. However, once you have this information, you will be placing yourselves, and possibly your families, in peril to some very dangerous and unscrupulous people." Sanok paused. "I leave it to each of you to decide if you read the PADDs or not." Matrix grinned slightly, "Captain, if I was worried about being placed in harms way I would not have joined Star Fleet. I'm here to serve in any capacity necessary to fulfill our mission." replied Matrix. Matrix waited for Jackson to respond and thought of the perils he had already overcome, both personally and on a professional level. The Federation Civil War came to the top of those thoughts and he hoped that, whatever the mission, it would not be a wide spread and far reaching. Intrigued by the notion of such a mission energized Matrix's resolve to get his crew and ship through another mission. He saw two tablets on the captains desk. the captain explained what was about to work if they proceeded past this point. Jackson looked at the captain and the first officer and made his decision. ( Reply: Captain) (Posted by: Bill) ----- (Rosenante, Captain's Ready Room, Captain Sanok, Day 37, 1122) Both Matrix and Jackson accepted the conditions of reading the PADDs. Sanok studied them while they did and noted their reactions. When they were finished, he took the PADDs and placed them back on the desk. "What you have just learned, is not to be spoken to anyone else, or outside of this room. Aside from Section 31, some in Starfleet Intelligence, and various others, the only ones that know that we can trust, are Captain Salid, Captain Soma, and Lieutenant Raschen." Sanok did not wait for his command officers to say anything. "Thank you, gentlemen. You may return to your duties." When Jackson and Matrix had left, Sanok got up and took the PADDs to the replicator and placed them inside. "Recycle." The PADDs disappeared, breaking down to the molecular level. They were now part of the source material used for replication, the information on them gone. Sanok moved to the window and looked at the warp-affect streaks passing by the ship, his hands clasped behind his back. The next stage in his life was about to begin. (reply none) (posted by Bob B.) ----- (Rosenante, Sickbay, ENSJG Edward Sutton, Day 37, 1130) Edward's reporting to the Captain was, to all intents and purposes, a non-event. Captain Sanok seemed more or less like your typical Vulcan, but then again, Ed wasn't going to make an assumption on a brief five minute exchange with him. As he walked through the door into Sickbay, he felt every bit the new kid on the block. The single black pip on his collar was the main indicator to this and as he looked around, a small smirk crept across his face. He was no longer some medical student, he was now a fully fledged Doctor of Medicine, despite dentistry being his primary qualification. He made his way over the CMO's office and rang the chime. After a brief wait, Ed entered, before handing over the PADD to Ensign Anderson. "Ensign Edward Sutton reporting in Ma'am. I'm the new dentist that Starfleet Medical informed you about." (Reply Anderson) (Replies Anderson, Any) (Posted by Paul Oliver) ----- (USS Rosenante - Medbay - CMO Ensign (sg) Ailyn Andersen - Day 37 - 1135) Ailyn's been backtracking records she kept, it seemed there was some kind of deviation between what she thought she put in and what she really did put in. Currently, she was working on a registry of medical inventory. She never appreciated the freedom of responsibility she had when she was the assistant medical on the Rose. Somehow, along the way, she only saw moving up the ranks in a positive light, not seeing the many strings that come attached with it. Of course, she felt she could do greater good now, but also a greater mistake. It was a double edged sword of course. It took her some time to understand the words of her teachers on the academy, but more and more, she understood what they were trying to teach her. After some minutes staring into the screen in front of her, correcting some inventory mistakes, before they get sent back to Starfleet, she heard a chime - someone was at the door. She turned the chair towards the doors, waiting for them to open. After all, medbay was a public place, no one needed permission to enter. As the doors opened, she caught an unfamiliar face. A black haired man, looking somewhere in his mid-twenties, entered the medbay, handing over the PADD to Ailyn. As she stood up, she took the PADD from the man's hands. "Ensign Edward Sutton reporting in Ma'am. I'm the new dentist that Starfleet Medical informed you about." She took a glimpse at the PADD for a second, checking some information, and then brought her attention back at the man in front of her. "It's a pleasure, I'm Ailyn Andersen, Chief Medical Officer." she brought out her hand to shake Sutton's. It wasn't quite the formal meeting, she remembered how things in medbay are different to the other part of the ship - or at least they were every time she was around. Her experience taught her that only friends can trust each other, and in this line of work - a medical officer, trust is everything. "Please take a seat." she pointed to the chair at the other side of the table. "You got quite some recommendations from the Academy professors. They thought you have quite an aptitude as a dentist. I'm glad you've been assigned to the Rosenante." (Reply: Sutton) "Yes, indeed. Of course, you will be expected to perform all the duties of an medical officer besides being a dentist, but I'm sure you'll do fine with that too." (Reply: Sutton) "Well, I haven't been on the ship for a long time, but in the time I was... I was definitely amazed at the things I saw. Rosenante fulfilled all my adventuring wishes, and I'm up here saving people as well, doing things I'm good at plus living out my dreams. What about you? How do you like the ship so far?" she asked, resting her head on her hand. (Reply: Sutton) "That's great. I'm sure you'll fit in with the crew fast, while we have a diverse and peculiar crew, they're all great people." she explained, putting her aloof smile. (Reply: Sutton) "Absolutely, feel free to get familiar with medbay. It's not the greatest place on the ship, but it's the place where most lives have been saved." she explained, remembering the first time she got in, how overwhelmed she felt knowing that this is the place where she's going to be spending most of her time in. And then trying out the Chief's chair, almost cursing why all the higher ranks have so comfortable chairs. (Reply: Sutton) "Yeah, we have to work as a tight-knit group. I mean when things go bad, and casulties start pouring in, it's a mess. We have to coordinate correctly and follow the protocols, when there's no casulties, we follow a routine check-ups of the crew. What you've been taught in the Academy is basically just about all you need to know about that. When things go awry and our crew starts taking the toll of the battle, I will expect some level of knowledge of emergency procedures, even if you're unsure what to do, you are always free to ask and we'll do it together." (Reply: Sutton) "I know it can sound a little overwhelming. I have felt that as well. I believe everyone did at some point, but you've been assigned to the Rosenante, and this implies people trust your capabilities, so you shouldn't worry too much. What really matters at the end of the day is that crew is alive and well." she finished, smiling. "It was nice meeting you, Ensign Sutton. Do you have question I could perhaps help with?"
